Cuttle Mill Business Park History

Cuttle Mill originated as a Coaching Inn where the busy Roman Road crossed a small stream. This water was later harnessed to power a grain mill and additional accommodation and stabling was built alongside. This all changed with the Thomas Telford designed bypass that swung the arrow straight road away from the Inn to lessen the gradient in the 18th century.  However, a connecting rampart from the newly raised road was constructed into the first floor of the Inn and the Innkeeper's accommodation moved down to the ground floor.

This upper floor (the Plough Inn and Tea Rooms) was demolished in the 1960’s but the lower portion still remains and houses the Annexe Office. The Mill building which had become the main residence for the Weissang family and the B & B establishment was converted to office use when the property was sold in 2007. The former agricultural buildings further up the site were converted for commercial use early in the 1970’s and remained as car repair workshops until 2008.
